Regardless of its humble beginnings in 1953, the iconic Corvette now boasts itself as the longest-produced sports car. If you’ve seen or experienced the exhilarating drive that a Corvette offers, it shouldn’t surprise you that it was ranked a 9.1 overall on U.S. News and World Report’s list of 2022’s best roadsters.
U.S. News gave the Corvette a 9.4 performance score – and it’s no secret why. 2020 saw a complete redesign of the Corvette which turned it into a mid-engine sports car. The 6.2-liter V8 LT4 engine is now housed behind the passenger’s seats for increased aerodynamics and performance.
Pushing boundaries is light work for the LT4. A whopping 465 lb-ft of torque and 490 horsepower are routed to the rear wheels, allowing for 0-60 mph in under three exhilarating seconds. The Corvette also embraced an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission this year. Control of this is easily accessed on both the steering wheel and the center console.
The Z51 Performance Package enables even more track-ready capability. It includes handling aids such as stiffer suspension and an electronic limited-slip differential. Upgraded engine cooling and a performance exhaust allow the Corvette to reach its 194 mph track speed more efficiently.
