A diesel engine provides pickup truck drivers with the best of both worlds. These engines are more efficient than the average truck engine, yet still managed to deliver a powerful amount of horsepower and torque. That’s precisely why each Chevrolet truck includes a diesel engine option.
That decision is now garnering some praise for Chevrolet. After all, each of its pickup truck models managed to gain a spot on the U.S. News & World Report list of the 11 Best Diesel Pickup Trucks of 2021.
The most popular of the Chevrolet Pickup trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, has long had a diesel engine offering. The latest Silverado 1500 model can achieve 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque with its Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel engine. With that amount of power at its disposal, the Silverado 1500 can tow up to 9,500 pounds.
The larger Silverado HD model can make even more use out of its diesel engine offering, a Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo-Diesel V8 that helps it produce up to 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. The Silverado HD can tow up to 36,000 pounds with that amount of power.
Even the mid-size Chevrolet Colorado comes with a diesel engine offering, helping it produce up to 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
